Although the tasks we set allow children to work independently, children would benefit from proof-reading alongside you. You could use coloured pencils for children to edit and improve their work.

How to help your child at home

A small amount of reading wherever possible develops children’s confidence. They could read aloud to friends or family too! Also, hearing adults read aloud can have a real impact on children’s motivation to want to read independently. Visiting the local library for books linked to their topic will also encourage them to research information to help them during their lessons.

Word challenges

Set your child challenges linked to words. Perhaps get them to suggest a WOW word, find definitions of words or look for words in their local area. Why not give them quick-fire challenges – ‘How do you spell...?’
