Spellings

Across the two phases, Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6, children are grouped for spellings. They visit their spelling teacher three times per week and carry out games and tasks linked to their current spelling rule. Children are given a set of words on a Friday and write sentences using their words in their spelling books. The following Tuesday, children take part in fun spelling activities and games relating to that set of words.

Children are tested on the Thursday to assess their learning of the word set and new words are set, linked to their progress.

We encourage children to keep a spelling dictionary too with words corrected by their class teachers.
